This course leads on from the preliminary skills and understandings taught in the Years 8 and 9 courses, however students are welcome to join Media for the first time at Year 10 level. Across this course there is still a heavy focus on production skills, introducing photography, Photoshop and podcasting skills to go along with the already defined audio visual skills. Students will also have an introduction to the analysis side of media in the form of responding to media texts, which forms part of the upper school courses.
The frequency of this subject is TWO periods per week.
Studying Media in Year 10 was a great option for me. I loved how hands on the course was, as it allowed me to develop new media skills, such as photography and using Adobe Photoshop. I found the analysis skills that were introduced interesting, and I liked studying the film in this way. I have gone on to do the ATAR Media Production & Analysis course in upper school.
