As the name suggests, the Mathematics Applications ATAR course focuses on topics that can be easily connected to the ‘real world’. Topics include consumer arithmetic, algebra and matrices, shape and measurement, data analysis, trigonometry and linear equations. There is a continual focus on reasoning and interpretive skills, connecting the mathematics to an applied situation, interpretation and communication of results, decisions of when and how to apply appropriate technology, as well as fundamental manual calculation skills.

The Mathematics Applications ATAR course is designed for students who want to extend their mathematical skills beyond Year 10 level but whose future studies (university or TAFE) or employment pathways do not require knowledge of calculus

When choosing my ATAR subjects in year 10, Maths Applications was the subject that I was most hesitant about. However; … it has become one of my top subjects. With a reasonable amount of effort and listening in class, Applications is a subject that everyone has the potential to really excel at.
